[Oscars recap of little importance.]

1. Whoever came up with the Franco/Hathaway idea should be severely reprimanded. She was too giggly, and he could not have been more blasé. Let's get Sandra in there next year, shall we?

2. I L.O.V.E.D. Mandy and Mila's dresses--precious and perfect, both of them. Jennifer Hudson killed it with her ridiculous new body, while Gwyneth didn't have quite enough bod to fill out her dress. And Scarlett was boring and, as usual, obese. Meanwhile, at our viewing party (hosted by Stefi--thanks!), Domineau stunned in her ball gown, and I sparkled in leggings.

3. Lindsey and I tied for first place in our ballot competition--Art History majors for the win!

4. As always, my love for Marky Mark grows stronger by the minute...

5. Melissa Leo's non speech. ... ... ... ... That really can just never happen again.

6. I made the ballots for our prize-less contest, mostly just so I could have the excuse to play around with fonts and red paper. They functioned well as coasters.

What did you think of the show?

[went to new york. took some pictures of cupcakes. the usual.]

1. Magnolia cupcakes, obviously a staple of any New York weekend.
2. This may be the creepiest picture I've ever taken, but it was also strategic. You'll never guess what was behind the cupcake.
3. Look who I bumped into in New York! My sister! Weird...
4. Aftermath of a Cafe Lalo session with Lauren. (Plates' contents were inhaled too quickly to be photographed.)

[Re: Steph.]

On Valentine's Day, my lovely former college roommate, fellow Smithsonian worker bee, and occasional sub-for-boyfriend Steph surprised me at my office with roses and chocolate, and made my little day. It's made all the difference in the world to have her living ten minutes away and working just down the street, available for spur of the moment cupcake runs, meltdowns, and other staples of our twenty-two year old lives.

Thanks, Estephania! So glad we were put together in this world again!

only thing cuter than baby cupcakes? baby humans. specifically, baby fashionistas.
still have zero interest in acquiring a co-parental unit, but would happily spawn one of these on my own if i could.

A weekend in Chicago.

Last month my sister Kelly and I were so lucky to be able to visit our uncle in Chicago for a weekend. I think the last time the three of us spent time like that together must have been at least 14 years ago, before the other kiddies were born, so it was such a treat to play with our uncle for the weekend and feel like little girls again. Two of my highlights were riding the ferris wheel on Navy Peer, with its beautiful views of the shoreline and Lake Michigan (including that darling little lighthouse), and just hanging out in our uncle's apartment, which had pretty amazing nighttime views. We had a fabulous weekend, but after trekking the city in single-digit weather, I concluded that Chicago in January is best enjoyed from a warm studio with a view, deep dish pizza, and family.

[my.life.curated] Valentine's Day.

I've had a life long love affair with the color red, ever since I bounced around in my little red Converse high tops as a two year old. It's sort of extremely difficult for me to resist buying every red thing I see, and the only reason I haven't yet dyed my hair red is because I would then clash with all the red things I already own and wear (plus I would look awful, obviously). We all know I love Valentine's Day for many reasons, but especially because it allows me to indulge a little more than usual--as if I needed an excuse.

In the spirit of the season, here are some pretty things I've acquired over the last little while. The Kate Spade iPhone case was one of my Valentines to myself (wait, doesn't everybody do that?), while the others I picked to decorate my room.

Happy Birthday Lauren!

When I visited Columbia University as a senior in high school, I met with several students who toured me around the campus, took me to their classes, and introduced me to their friends. One of those friendly faces was Lauren, who took me to her Art Humanities class--to this day, she credits herself with my decision to major in Art History (I'll let her think that ;). She was two years ahead of me, so after I began as a freshman I only ran into her every now and then. It wasn't until my sophomore year and her senior year that we started spending time together, bonding over greasy study food, ice cream, and boyfriends named Andy. I've always been a hard person to make laugh, so when she became one of the few people I knew who could consistently crack me up, I knew I had found a good friend. Since then, we've shared our ups and downs with boys, all night study sessions, Disney movie singalongs, weekend trips, one particularly fateful night (on which one of us may have dropped the other's phone into a toilet that wasn't quite empty...), and my bed (head to toe in a college twin bed--it's a miracle neither of us have kicked out the other's teeth by now).

Four years later and states apart, she still makes me laugh until I cry, and I consider my friendship with her to be one of the best things I gained from my four years at school. Dearest Lala, Beautiful Princess, Homeskillet...you are beautiful inside and out. I'm blessed to be your friend, and the world is blessed by your presence.

Happy birthday my love!

Happy Valentine's Month!

Valentine's Day is my FAVORITE holiday. Always. Boyfriend or no boyfriend (though there has basically always been a boyfriend, let's be honest...).

It allows me to be extra obsessed with my favorite color, red, and my favorite shape, heart.

I hope your February is perfect and lovely.

And that you receive some of these too.

Thank you for the surprise, you.

Reasons to never exercise.

So I went to the gym last night with Chad.
To exercise more was not a New Year's resolution.
:: I wasn't trying to set myself up for failure, people. ::
He is training for some death march or marathon or whatever...so I am being supportive by gyming with him.
I did 4.5 miles in 30 minutes on the elliptical, which I will probably brag about for the rest of my life, especially because it will never be repeated.
This titanic effort resulted in chest pain, dizziness, and intense nausea, and I spent the next ten minutes alternating between chugging water and awkwardly standing with my head between my knees. (Harder than it looks.)

I THUS CONCLUDE that exercise is bad for my health, and I will discontinue the dangerous practice immediately!
